Explain in your own words, the difference between noncyclic and cyclic photophosphorylation in terms of CO2, O2, ATP and NADPH.

When chloroplasts are crushed and a suspension is made, they do not produce G3P even with enough CO2 and H2O. Explain.

Maltose is made of 2 glucose molecules. If one molecule of maltose is made in a plant cell, how many times must CO2 go through the Calvin cycle? How many ATP and NADPH are needed?

In detail, explain the competitive inhibition of rubisco by O2. How have C4 plants evolved to overcome photorespiration?

Answer #1

Difference between cyclic and non cyclic phosphorylation

Characteristics Cyclic photophosphorylation Non cyclic photophosphorylation
CO2 cyclic phosphorylation is carried out under very low light intensity and anaerobic conditions so CO2 is not available. Non cyclic phosphorylation is carried out under optimum light and aerobic conditions so CO2 is available.
O2 This process is not related with photolysis of water so oxygen is not liberated. This process is related to photolysis of water so oxygen is liberated.
ATP it synthesizes only ATP. It synthesizes ATP
NADPH This process does not synthesize NADPH. This process also synthesizes NADPH.
