because of the particular triplet base pair code for a specific amino acid, as we know there is 64 possible type of triplet codon can be formed, and out of these 3 are stopping codon which doesn't code for any of the 20 amino acids. If there is any kind of mutation caused due to certain mutagenic agents(radiation, chemicals) then the triplet codon will change (due to insertion of a base or deletion or mutation to stop codon) so the sequence of amino acid will change so a different protein will be synthesized.
