Explain (in 100 words or less) WHY there are such varying microbial growth requirements, i.e., oxygen, pH, temperature, barometric pressure, osmotic pressure, humidity and light. Include evidence to support your answer such as statistics, dates or categorical information
The growth and death of microorganism are influenced by several factors. Without oxygen, bacterial produces acids with toxic gases to the environment. Microbes grows better at slightly alkaline condition such as pH of 7-7.5, different pH affect the growth rate and metabolism of bacterial growth. Temperature affects the bacterial cells growth in many ways with respect to enzyme-catalysed reactions, the optimum temperature for the growth of free living bacteria is 37oC. Different pressure affects cell death of microorganism. Light and humidity is important to maintain the energy and avoid the dryness of the cells.
