Answer : The cells are extremely specific to the nature of substrate provided for metabolism. This is because each substrate is acted upon by a biological enzyme which holds tremendous sensitivity as well as specificity with respect to its substrate. Acetyl coA represents to be the primary substrate for citric acid cycle. Thus, the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase will not be able to recognize malonyl coA and the metabolic cycle will cease to occur.
