I am in a microbiology class. We are doing a project on unknown bacteria. what test would I do to rule out different salmonella bacteria? I'm down to salmonella enteritidis, salmonella newport and salmonella typhirium. I'm lost as to my next step and why. I've tried looking at the Kirby Bauer test but I can't find what antibiotics are good for what salmonella.

Detection and identificationmethods for salmonella

• Salmonella is mostly known for food poisoning. Salmonella would be growing at lower temperatures and requires to be refrigerated.
• For the traditional methods there would be at least three days required for detection of Salmonella.
• There could be use of rapid tests for screening. These tests include ELISA or EIA, such and simple lateral flow assays.
• Also, PCR based techniques could be used at a laboratory level, for detection of the sample.
• Or, selective agar could be used for detection of culture.

Antibiotics for salmonella include:

• Trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole or bactrim or ciprofloxacin could be given. Further, chloramphenicol or cefotaxime could be used.
