Craig Venter of the Institute for Genomic Research in Gaithersburg, and Dr. Hamilton O. Smith of the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore. The genome of Haemophilus influenzae contain 1,830,137 base pairs of DNA which code for 1743 genes arranged in a single circle. They use shotgun sequencing strategy and a software program called TIGR assembler for sequencing and assembling the genome.
