Choose 1 molecule that if mutated could potentially result in a "ventralized" phenotype for its progeny. Describe why that mutation would result in a ventralized embryo.

*ventralized= ventral structures form in places where it wouldn't normally form

Answer #1

The Signal Transduction Pathway are responsible for establishing the dorso-ventral polarity ( decision that which organ will be dorsal and which will be ventral ) during embryogenesis. This is attained by help of a transmembrane protein called as Toll protein as it's receptors are ventrally located extracellular ligand. Some dominant alleles of this toll gene ( that encodes for toll protein) cause organs to centralise. Researches found out that any mutation in toll protein polypeptide would tamper the correct way of embryogenesis.

1.     Offering compensation to residents of a community could potentially increase the likelihood of siting a hazardous plant in that vicinity (or increase the willingness to accept risk). This is a standard assumption. Contrast this statement with the story in Debate 19.1 (page 497). What other factors could potentially nullify this statement. Debate 19.1 One week before a referendum in Switzerland on the siting of a nuclear-waste repository, a survey was conducted in the community where the repository was to be...

To determine whether regulation of gene expression by short RNAs was a naturally occurring phenomenon, researchers isolated RNA from a cell and fractionated them by size to obtain only short RNAs. The next step was to clone these molecules. Today the cloning step would not be required. Which of the techniques below is the best reason why? Because a microarray could tell if the fragments were encoded by the genome. Because a PCR reaction could tell if the fragments were...

1.A population of alpacas all have an identical fur length phenotype. During a particularly cold winter, longer fur would be beneficial as it would provide them with greater insulation. Select the correct answer given this information. A. the alpacas will evolve by natural selection as longer hair would be favorable in their environment. B. a mutation for longer fur will likely develop in this population. c. alpacas will longer fur will likely migrate into this population as they have a...

A poll done for an organization found that 13% of Americans have seen or sensed the presence of an angel. A contingent doubts that the percent is really that high. It conducts its own survey. Out of 78 Americans surveyed, only two had seen or sensed the presence of an angel. As a result of the contingent's survey, would you agree with the organization's poll? Conduct a hypothesis test at the 5% level. Note: If you are using a Student's...

2 Equipartition The laws of statistical mechanics lead to a surprising, simple, and useful result — the Equipartition Theorem. In thermal equilibrium, the average energy of every degree of freedom is the same: hEi = 1 /2 kBT. A degree of freedom is a way in which the system can move or store energy. (In this expression and what follows, h· · ·i means the average of the quantity in brackets.) One consequence of this is the physicists’ form of...
