Consider the problem of Hydrofracking and discuss the kinds of factors utilitarianism would need to consider in articulating the best moral solution to that problem
Hydraulic fracturing is a practise in which companies drill the underground for oil and natural gas. They inject millions of gallons of water, sand, salts and toxic ,carcinogenic chemicals such as benzene at extremely high pressure to underground rock deposits so as to fracture the rock and ectract the raw fuel from it.But this possesses a threat to humans as well as environment.Utilitarianism deals with actions that directs people to take decisions based on the possible outcomes of the action. The main factors are social welfare that provides good for the society. The main goal of utilitarianism is to maximise utility by providing social welfare at the same time. There should be regulation that mostly focusses on the cleaning up process of hydrofracking as the process take place and not preventing the entire process due to human and environmental process.
