Answer #1

The presence of blood in urine is called as Hematuria.

Hematuria may be of various reasons. Infections of the kidneys, urethra, urinary bladder, carcinoma of bladder, polycystic kidney disease, nephropathy, renal calculi are some of the conditions where Hematuria is observed.

Renal calculi are stones formed by calcium oxalate or calcium carbonate. When these stones are sharp and due to friction they lacerate the urethra or the kidney which results in blood leaking into the urine. If the blood leaking is of large quantity, we can see the colour of urine changing into dark red or reddish brown. If the amount of blood is very less, then we can see RBC in microscopy of urine sample.

Assume your blood has a pH of 7.4 and you have been producing urine with a pH of 7.4 for a while. You drive to very high altitude (ca. 4,000 m) and spend several hours there. Your alveolar ventilation rate increases (as expected), and eventually this causes your blood pH to rise above 7.4 (your blood plasma becomes more basic than normal). This change in blood pH will initiate compensatory homeostatic mechanisms in your kidneys ("renal compensation") that will alter...
