How does reducing the conductance affect the amount of spatial summation? Why?
Spatial summation is the mechanism in which there would be eliciting of an action potential as there would be inputs from the different pre synaptic cells. As a result of potentials coming from the various areas of the brain, especially the dendrites, the algebraic sum will be resulting in spatial summation.
IF the conductance effect is reduced, the sum total of the inuts would not be able to reach the threshold voltage that is essential for triggering if an action potential. If conductance is reduced, the excitatory signals would be lower, the inputs would be received in time and the inputs could be summated temporally.
