G-proteins also known as guanine nucleotide binding proteins, are a family of proteins that act as molecular switches iside cells, are involved in the transmitted signals from a variety of outside a cell to the interior. Their activity is regulated by factors taht control their ability to bind to and hydrolyze GTP to GDP. G proteins belongs to the larger of enzymes called GTPases.
