B) Thinking about the graph just above, what factor(s)s do you think might be affected in an individual who has diabetes, and why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

b) Diabetes specifically, Type II diabetes is caused when cells become resistant to the action of insulin which make pancreas unable to produce enough insulin to overcome this resistance. In this scenario, sugar(glucose) builds up in the bloodstream. The renal threshold for glucose excretion is increased in patients with type II diabetes. High blood sugar, can damage the blood vessels in kidneys. Renal glucose levels increases in type II diabetes patients. The amount of glucose filtered by the kidneys increases in a linear manner with increasing plasma glucose concentration and decreases with decreasing glomerular flux. The increases in tubular reabsorption in individuals with type II diabetes lead to an increase in glucose flux into the blood.
