Antioxidants in our body help to scavenge free radicals and protect the tissues from damage. Hence it is advisable to take foods rich in antioxidants such as citrus fruits.

However, a metanalysis study in 2002 found that 70% of Antioxidant supplements are detrimental to the health.

Antioxidants, when taken as a supplement are not good for health. The lower dose of antioxidants in fruits and vegetables is good for our health. These antibiotics may be combined with other factors in these natural products so as to minimize their activity. Hence they are helpful to our health.

On the other hand, supplements contain high antioxidant activity which is not good for our health.

High activity of antioxidants is harmful due to

i. These antioxidants may turn out as pro-oxidants

ii. They may protect harmful cells in the body from free radicals

iii. Side effects such as a headache and nausea
