24. Understand the concept of the genetic code – what two things does it link together?
Genetic code is the triplet codon where each base triplet codes for one particluar amino acid. Hence 4 bases in different combination can form 64 possible combinations. These code for 20 different amino acids and start and stop codons as well.
Genetic code links transcription with translation. The tRNA has anticodon site on them which is complementary to mRNA sequence and each tRNA is specific for one particluar kind of amino acid. Hence they add amino acids on the growing polypetide according to the sequece of anticodon on tRNA and complementary codon on mRNA.
