What happens if someone was to ingest rotenone? Why do they need medical treatment?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Rotenone is a colorless insecticide, piscicide as well as pesticide.
The compound is found naturally in the roots of some tropical and subtropical plants.
Example: it is found in jicama vine plant.
It is very safe when used in limited and prescribed quantities.
But if someone was to ingest rotenone, toxicity depends on the amount consumed.
The best method to treat such victims is by using pottasium permanganate in water.
This lowers the toxicity of rotenone.
