Topoisomerases is a isomerase enzyme that helps to modify the topology of DNA structure.Cells use negative supercoiling to promote strand separation.If DNA is too negatively super coiled strands will separate too often.Cells use topoisomerases to control the topolgical state of DNA. The major function of the topoisomerase enzyme is to uncoil and recoil the DNA.To manage DNA supercoils bacterial topoisomerases and human topoisomerases follow similar mechanism.For transcription or replication DNA needs to be unwind to carry cellular process.Topoisomerases cleaves the DNA strand .Enzyme undergoes a conformational change,opening a gap in the DNA.Uncut strand passes through the gap and enzyme closes.Topoisomerase ligates nicked strand then topoisomerases releases DNA.So answer is to uncoil and recoil the DNA molecule.
