Which statement is Not true for glycolysis under anaerobic conditions in a msucle:

a. Fructose - 1,6-biphosphate is a substrate in the glycolysis process

b. It results to compete glucose oxidation to CO2

c. It results in net ATP production

d. It results in NADH production

e. Its speed decreases as ATP concentration increases

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In the presence of limited amounts of oxygen, the glucose is transformed to lactate in anaerobic glycolysis.

In the absence of sufficient oxygen in the muscle cells for further NADH produced and oxidation of pyruvate in glycolysis, the reduction of pyruvate to lactate results in the regeneration of NAD+ from NADH.

The enzyme Fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase converts the substrate fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to fructose-6-phosphate.

This process results in net synthesis of ATP and NADH production and its rate slows down when ratio is high.

Hence, the option (b) is correct.

Which of the following statements is false? NADH generated by the oxidation of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate causes a net oxidation in the conversion of glucose to pyruvate. There is no net oxidation-reduction in the conversion of glucose to lactate. Lactate dehydrogenase catalyzes the transfer of electrons from NADH to pyruvate to form lactate. The regeneration of NADH in the reduction of pyruvate to acetyl CoA sustains the continued process of glycolysis under anaerobic conditions. The regeneration of NAD+ in the reduction...
