Instructions: In your own words, define the pairs of terms given below. Write in complete sentences, stating the differences and relationships between the two terms, and give specific examples where appropriate. A complete answer usually requires four to eight sentences.
a.
Kinetochore
vs Centriole:
Kinetochore is the protein structure in eukaryotes which assembles
on the centromere and links the chromosome to microtubule polymers
from the mitotic spindle during mitosis. Centriole is a
barrel-shaped microtubule structure. It found in most animal cells,
important in the process of mitosis or the nuclear division.
Allele vs
Locus:
Alleles are variants of the same gene. It occurs on the same place
on a chromosome. A locus refers to the location on the chromosome
where the gene is found. Loci is the plural form of locus.
RNA Primer
vs DNA Polymerase:
A RNA primer is a short stretch of nucleic acid. It is made up of
the single-stranded RNA molecule. An RNA polymerase, called DNA
primase synthesizes a short stretch of single-stranded RNA molecule
for startingreplication. The single-stranded RNA primer provides a
free 3' OH group. It is required for DNA polymerase.
RFLPs vs Southern
blot analysis:
Southern blot analysis is used for the detection of DNA or gene
sequence in circular or large DNA. On the other hand RFLP or
Restriction Fragment Length Ploymorphism is used for comparethe DNA
fragments after reaction with restriction enzymes.
