We know that the alpha globin cluster is made up of 28
kb and it is located on chromosome 16. But is this cluster
repeated? If so, how many bp separate two adjacent repetitions
(clusters)?
Thanks in advance!
Alpha globin cluster, also known as HBA1 is a hemoglobin protein . It is encoded by the HBA1 gene in humans which is found on chromosome number 16 .
It includes seven loci --- 5'- zeta - pseudozeta - mu - pseudoalpha 1 - alpha 2 - alpha- 1- theta- 3' .
The alpha-2 [ HBA2] and alpha - 1 [ HBA -1] gene coding sequence are identical.
These genes differ slightly over the 5' untranslated region and the introns, but they differ significantly over the 3' untranslated regions.
