Exercise 11

3. It is necessary for restaurants to post warnings regarding the consumption of rate of undercooked fish and other meats, especially pork. It is because, for people at higher risk for foodborne illness, severe and life-threatening illness may result from consuming raw or undercooked fish and shellfish. These individuals include those with compromised immune systems, as well as pregnant women, infants, young children and older adults. Eating raw fish is associated with a higher risk of parasitic infections and food poisoning. If someone consumes undercooked pork, the meat can harbor parasites, like roundworms or tapeworms. These can cause foodborne illnesses like trichinosis or taeniasis. While rare, trichinosis can lead to serious complications that are sometimes fatal.
