  1. What are the genotypic and phenotypic ratios for kernel color and kernel texture for a dihybrid cross between PpSS x Ppss?

  1. genotypic ratio

  1. phenotypic ratio

Homework Answers

Answer #1

From forming punnet square of PpSS *Ppss we get ;

Total count of Purple & smooth is 9

Total count of Purpyle & shrunken is 3

Total count of yellow & smooth as 3

Total count of yellow & shrunken as 1

Total count as a whole is 16

From above data we get,

Therefore, Phenotypic ratio of purple smooth as 9:16 ,purple shrunken as 3:16,yellow smooth as 3:16 and yellow shrunken as 1:16

Genotypic ratio is 9:3:3:1

Note : A punnet square diagram shown here to help you understand the steps written in calculation.

You performed a dihybrid test cross between flies that were heterozygous for both traits and flies that were homozygous recessive for both traits. The results showed some variation from the predicted 1:1:1:1 phenotypic ratio, but the P value was determined to be .25 (insignificant)or good fit. What can you conclude about these two genes that are responsible for the observed traits and why?   (Hint: law of independent assortment is being tested)
