What is the effect of detergent on the germination and growth of seeds

What is the effect of detergent on the germination and growth of seeds

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The presence of the detergents significantly reducer seed germination and radicle length. Also the shoot height, leaf area, number of leaves per plant and fresh and dry weights of roots and shoots also reduces. The detergents are also responsible for increase in electrical conductivity, pH and salinity of the soil which adversely affected plant growth.  The high concentration od detergent is unhealthy for plant growth and can lead to unfavorable changes in soil physiochemistry.

Suppose that I buy a packet of seeds that carries the claim that the germination rate for seeds of this type is 93%. Assume that my packet of seeds contains a random sample of seeds, so that the germination of one seed is independent of the germination of any other seed. If there are 120 seeds in this packet, what is the approximate probability that I get a germination rate of less than 0.9? That is, what is P(p-hat <...

The U.S. Federal Seed Act establishes germination rates for various fruit and vegetable seeds. Watermelon seeds are to meet a 70% germination standard. A skeptical gardener who has not had very good luck planting watermelons believes that the seed company he purchases seeds from is not adhering to the 70% federal mandate. Once a week for 12 weeks, he purchases a pack of 10 watermelon seeds to act as his sample. He plants the seeds in a greenhouse with good...

A simple random sample of germination times (in days) for n = 7 seeds of a new strain of snap beans has a sample mean ¯x = 15.57 days and standard deviation s = 3.21 days. Assume that germination times are normally distributed. Please show work for full credit. (a) Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if average germination time of this new strain of snap beans is below 17 days. Use pvalue. (b) Interpret your answer from part (a).

Information on a large packet of seeds indicates that the germination rate is p0=92%. Some researchers claim that the proportion of germination should be higher than that. (a) (1 point) For testing this claim, what is the appropriate null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis? (b) (2 points) Now 300 seeds are chosen randomly with 290 germinated to test this claim. Compute the test statistic and get the rejection region at the significance level α = 0.05. (c) (2 points) Report the...

For each of the following sampling scenarios, determine which test statistic is appropriate to use when making inference statements about the population mean. (In the table, Z refers to a variable having a standard normal distribution, and t refers to a variable having a...

A biologist is studying a new hybrid tomato. It is known that the seeds of this hybrid tomato have probability .80 of germinating. the biologist plants 8 seeds. (Hint: this is a binomial experiment with n=8 trials. Each seed planted represents an independent trial. We’ll say germination is a success) what is the number of seeds that will germinate?
