Are VNTRs human specific?

Are VNTRs human specific?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A location in genome which consist of short nucleotide sequence is arrangef as a tandem repeat .They can be found on many chromosomes and generally show variation bin length , among individuals .Each and every variant act as a inherited alleles and hence make them useful for personal or parental identification.

VNTR's have its application in forensic criminal investigation , through DNA fingerprinting and CODIS database. After the extraction NB and isolation of DNA their size is determined by gel electrophoresis which produce a pattern of bands which are unique to each individual.while testing it with the group of independent VNTR marker the chances of unrelated individual having same allelic pattern is extremely low.

A student is tasked with cloning a specific gene-coding sequence from a human cancer cell in order to produce the corresponding protein in bacteria at a concentration sufficient to conduct in vitro biochemical studies. A) The student decides to use primers specific to the 5’ and 3’ ends of the human gene based on a genomic DNA sequence he found in the human genome database. After using a genomic library for PCR amplification, plasmid cloning, and bacterial transformation, the student...

6. McCoy et al. (2017) chose to study modern human subjects who were heterozygous for Neanderthal-specific SNPs that were transcribed into mature mRNAs. Why (how) were individuals with these genotypes helpful for gene expression assays? The authors found a systematic bias in their results, in which the Neanderthal alleles tended to be down-regulated in the brain and the testis, more often than in other tissues. What could account for this? from here : McCoy, R. C. et al. (2017) Impacts...
