The actions we can take to protect private wells are as follows:

1. Keep hazardous chemicals such as paint, fertilizers, pesticides or any unwanted materials away from well so it can be protected from contamination.

2. It should be tested annually or in six months for mechanical problems, cleanliness and presence of certain contaminants such as coliform bacteria,  nitrates or some other contaminants.

3. Always check if the well is properly covered or well cap is intact properly.  Well boundary should be atleast one feet above the ground.
