Describe 3 conceptual steps which must occur in the process of cell differentiation.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Conceptual steps occur in the process of differentiation:

  1. Formation of stem cell from Blastocyst cells
  2. Stem cells will differentiate into progenitor cells/ precursor cells
  3. Progenitor cells differentiate into specific cells

Cellular differentiation: Process of producing specialized cells.

Stem cells: Undifferentiated cells. Has the potential of becoming specialized cells with specific function.

Progenitor cells: They are descendants of stem cells that further differentiate to create specialized cell types.

Example of specific cells: Muscle cells, nerve cells, blood cells, sperm cells etc.
