Which blood types are dominant, and which are recesive? Explain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The blood type carries a system of genetics called CODOMINANCE which is such that the alleles in the heterozygous condittion are fully expressed irrespective of each other.

But at the same time while A and B allele codes for a protein, allele O does not code for any protein. Meaning if one of the allele is O, the other will make its protein and gives that blood group while the blood group O is only possible when the person is homozygous for O i.e. OO. so the possible genotypes and phenotypes are as

Blood group A = AO or AA

Bloodgroup B = BO or BB

Blood group AB = AB

Blood group O = OO
