5. A father with blue eyes (bb) is married to a woman with hazel eyes (Bb). Use a Punnett square to determine the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring

Answer #1

Here mother is a heterozygous dominant (Bb) and father is homozygous reccessive(bb).Alleles are B for hazel eyes and b for blue eyes.mother have two alleles one for hazel eyes and other for blue eyes, but father have both alleles for blue eyes. From the punnet square,we got the genotypic and phenotypic ratio as:

genotypic ratio :heterozygous domonant:homozygous recessive = 2:2

phenotypic ratio:hazel eyes :blue eyes =2:2

ie,phenotypes are 50% offsprings with hazel eyes and 50% offsprings with blues eyes ,equal probability for both.

genotypes are 50% with heterozygous dominant and 50% with homozygous recessive.

A woman has just had twins, a boy and a girl. The woman’s father has two X-linked recessive disorders, haemophilia and colour-blindness, but the woman is unaffected. The father of the children has neither disorder. Both disorders are completely penetrant. The loci for the two traits are known to be 5cM apart. a) What is the probability that the boy will be colour-blind but not haemophilic? Traditionally, blue-eye color is considered recessive to brown eyes in humans although, as noted in the chapter, eye color in humans is not a single gene trait. It has occasionally been the subject of folklore and “common knowledge” that blue-eyed parents usually have blue-eyed offspring. However, blue-eyed parents do often have brown-eyed children. In addition, when one brown-eyed child is born in this family, it is expected that subsequent children will also have brown eyes. Assuming the blue eyes really...

Mice can have normal tails or ‘bent’ tails. “Bent” is the dominant x- linked allele (B). The normal allele (b) is recessive. A normal-tailed female...
