In many insects, bacterial endosymbionts (bacteria that grow symbiotically within the host insect) are present in special cells which are known as Bacteriocytes or mycetocytes. These endosymbionts are passed from mother to the offsprings. therefore we can say that they are transferred to offsprings by maternal inheritance or maternal transmission (as they are maternally transmitted like mitochondria or cloroplast).
