If you are given a monoclonal antibody and polyclonal antibody against a given protein, which do you think is mre likely to have clocking activity (to inhibit the function of the given protein)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: Polyclonal antibody

Explanation: As we know that the polyclonal antibody can pair with different/ multiple types of epitopes at the same time. For this reaseo if i add this polyclonal antibody and there is presence of variation of different antigen outside so there is probability that the polyclonal antibody is going to stick to one or two different types of antigen inside. As they have huge affinity towards the antigen that is the advantage of polyclonal over monoclonal antibody.

As the protein shows the variation(in epitope) due to some changes( denaturation, change in structural conformation by variation in pH or by any mean) so polyclonal antibody is found to have more clocking activity over the monoclnal antibody.

Suppose that antibody is prepared against the extracellular portion of a particular hormone receptor known to have intracellular tyrosine kinase activity, and known to carry out autophosphorylation of its tyrosine kinase. Suppose further that addition of this antibody to target cells elicits intracellular responses similar to those obtained by addition of hormone itself. Propose a mechanism by which addition of antibody may mimic the effects of adding hormone. (Hint: Fab fragments do not elicit the hormone-like response.)

You add a fluorescent antibody to a cell surface protein to a dish of cells. Looking at an individual cell under the microscope the entire surface of the cell is fluorescent. You then hit the cell with a brief pulse from a laser which bleaches out part of the fluorescence on the cell. Over time you notice that the entire surface of the cell becomes fluorescent again. What is the best explanation for this observation? 1. Proteins from parts of...
