rock pocket mice evolved to have dark-colored fur in certain habitats. In 5-6 sentences, explain how this trait increased in frequency in the population. In your discussion include the following key terms: fitness, survival, selection, and evolution
Rock pocket mice are mainly found in deserts of Mexico and the South United States. They developed dark-colored fur which is more fit on the dark-colored volcanic rocks, dark color soils which protect them from being eaten by predators. This trait frequency increased in population because the dark-colored fur is more fit for survival in the dark-colored environment surrounding it. Hence, they are not eaten during natural selection by other predators. And the natural selection favored the dark-colored fur rock pocket mice individuals. This dark-colored fur allele evolved to generations as they reproduced more in that environment. All these caused, the dark-colored fur rock pocket mice to evolve more in dark rock/soil habitats.
