I am reading a journal article and it describes that when the cells are transfected with HEGs (pEGFP-Ppo) the nucleoli of the cells disintegrate, what does this mean? What is likely to be the consequences of when nucleoli's disintegrate?
Question
The transfection is the process of deliberately introducing DNA into the eukaryotic host. So, when we are transfecting the cells with HEG(homing endonuclease), the meaning of disintegration of nucleolus means breaking of nucleolus or it get disappear releasing all its content into the cytoplasm as nucleus also break and chromosomes being condensed in order to replicate with host DNA. The exogenous DNA will then express it's protein. The nucleolus when break release rRNA that are necessary for recombinant protein expression.
