Glucagon triggers adenyl cyclase signaling to decrease flux through the glycolytic pathway. How?
Glucagon is released in response to low blood sugar level. It helps in breakdown of glycogen to glucose. Glucagon binds to subunit of G-protein coupled receptors in plasma membrane of liver and muscle cells, which activates the heterotrimeric Gs protein. The GDP bound to the inactivated subunit is replaced by GTP. This GTP-bound subunit then goes and activates adenylate cyclase enzyme, this enzyme converts ATP into cAMP,cAMP activates protein kinase A(PKA) which phosphorylates different effector proteins and mediate its function to decrease glucose breakdown through the glycolytic pathway by increasing blood glucose level.
