In case of MITOSIS-
The cells which are undergoing mitosis require just only one division. As because the cells can give rise to two new identical genetically similiar cells (clone cells) with the same number of chromosome in only one mitotic cell dvision. So therefore the cells undergoing mitosis requires only one division.
In case of MEIOSIS-
However the cells which undergo meiotic division requires two sets of division because unlike the mitotic cells, the gamete produced by meiotic division is not the clone of the parent cell as it contain only the half of the total number of chromosme (Haploid cell) and thus is not identical to the parent cell.
