Q1 .Researchers at GSK pharmaceutical company claims that they have developed a potential “candidate” drug to cure coronavirus infection. Using an experimental research design, explain how this drug should be tested in the clinical trials in order to ensure its safety and effectiveness.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For the candidate drug to be anounced as potential drug against corona virus, preclinical in-vitro and in vivo studies will be performed initially and then clinical trials will be performed. Once the drug shows effective inhibitory potential at less concentration and safety in non human primates, the drug enters clinical trial phase which is conducted in three stages

Phase 1 clinical trials and safety assesemnt and than follwed up by phase 2 and phase 3 in which the efficient concentration that kills corona virus should be less than minimum tolerable dose that means the effiecient dose should not cause any adverse effects to the host .

ED50 or efffective dose will be determined and than minimum tolerable dose should be much fold higher so that it will not cause any adverse effects
