If glucose is present at high levels in a culture medium, will significant levels of active ?-galactosidase enzyme be detected? Select one: a. No. b. It will not make any difference. c. Yes.

Answer #1

The answer would be A) NO

As this enzyme is part of lac operon which is only acticated in the presence of lactose as an energy source for the cell whenever glucose is not present. So, if glucose is present, the repressor would bind to the operator disabling the transcription og the downstream genes in the lac operon which include the gene for b galactosidase.

If E. coli were subjected to high levels of lactose and low levels of glucose, which of the following conditions would apply? Y = yes, N = no A) lac repressor would be bound to the operator of the lac operon promoter B) CAP protein would be bound to the CAP binding site adjacent to the lac operon promoter C) cAMP levels would be low D) the lac operon would be actively expressing the operon into separate mRNA molecules needed...

Sheila's doctor is concerned that she may suffer from gestational diabetes (high blood glucose levels during pregnancy). There is variation both in the actual glucose level and in the blood test that measures the level. A patient is classified as having gestational diabetes if her glucose level is above 120 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) one hour after a sugary drink. Sheila's measured glucose level one hour after the sugary drink varies according to the Normal distribution with μ = 105...

1. The lac operon responds to lactose and glucose. If wild-type E. coli cells are grown in media that contains both lactose and glucose, they will consume the glucose first because: (select all that apply) A.) the lac repressor remains bound to lacO, preventing the lac operon from being expressed at maximal levels B.) the permease (lacY) is not expressed in the presence of glucose, preventing lactose from entering the cell and being converted to allolactose, the inducer C.) the...
