Mutation is defined as the change in sequence of DNA. If this mutation is dominant in nature, then it will inhibit the expression of another allele. The mutation leads to produce mutated mRNA, then it produces mutated protein by transaltion. Hence the trait produced is of mutated type.

But if the mutation is recessive in nature, then there should be found homozygous recessive genotype for producing mutated trait.

Hence these terms are interlinked to each other
