Four biomolecules describe the subunits for each, an example of the larger molecules(polymers) of each that are formed. and what purpose they serve for the organism

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans: 4 biomolecules- Carbohydrate, protein, lipid, nucleic acid

1. Carbohydrate- Monosaccharide is the basic subunit of carbohydrates.
Example of the large molecule (polymer)- Starch made up of glucose subunits. Starch serves to store energy in plants.

2. Proteins- Amino acids are the basic subunit of proteins.

Example of the large molecule (polymer)- Collagen plays an important role in cell adhesion, maintaining the infrastructure of tissue.

3. Lipid- Glycerol and fatty acids serve as lipid subunits.

Example of the large molecule (polymer)- phospholipid- It maintains the structural integrity of the plasma membrane.

4. Nucleic acid- nucleotides are the basic subunit of nucleic acid.

Example of the large molecule (polymer)- Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)- It is the main genetic material of cell that is inherited from parents to offsprings.
