When a medical technologist consumes raw fish daily for 2 weeks, technologist may have the infection with Diphyllobothrium (genus of tapeworms) that causes diphyllobothriasis in humans, if anybody consume raw fish or uncooked fish. It has observed that consumption of raw fish can causes endemic diphyllobothriasis in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.

Food borne illeness can occur after the consumption of raw fish some common symptoms are vomiting diarrhea and abdomnal pain.

Only small percentage of people can develop vitamin B 12 deficiency or have lower levels of vitamin B12 that can cause anemia after the consumption of raw fish because the fish tapeworms (Diphyllobothrium) has an affinity for vitamin B12 that leads to the deficiency of vitamin B12 inside the body and may cause the megaloblastic anemia.
