You are genetically engineering a bacterium to survive a move through interplanetary space. Which characteristics would you include to maximize survival in space?

A. Antibiotic resistance

B. Sporulation

C. Mobility

D. Toxin production

Homework Answers

Answer #1

B is the answer.

Sporulation gene is inserted in the bacteria. These gene allows the bacteria to produce spore in the bacteria. The bacteria have thick wall. This thick wall allows the bacteria to grow in harsh conditions. Hence these thick wall trait allows the bacteria to grow in interplanetary space.

The mobility gene, antibiotic resistance gene and toxin producing genes does not provide the specific trait for survival in the interplanetary space.

The genome of the bacteriophage M13 was modified to include a CRISPR-Cas 9 operon with the following features: The operon includes a gene coding for protein Cas 9, and a gene coding a sgRNA. The CRISPR-Ca9 operon is under the control of a bacterial constitutive promoter. The sgRNA gene includes a spacer flanked by two repeats. The sequence of the spacer matches a sequence of an antibiotic resistance gene present in an antibiotic resistant form of a bacteria. Bacteria containing...
