Distinguish between a BINDING assay and a FUNCTIONAL assay.

Binding assay- 1. It is an anlytic assay which relay on binding of ligand molecules to receptors or antibodies. It is of following type- Saturation assay, Competetitive assay, Kinetic assay.

1. It measures the interactions between two molecules.
2. eg- small molecules, nucleic acid etc.
3. It detects the immunoglobulin molecules by their ability to bind specifically to their target antigen.

Functional assay- 1. It is in vivo experiments that are designed to determine the involvement of protein in a cellular pathway.

2. It quantify the functioning of an active substance rather than its quantify just.

3. Main goal of functional analysis is to develop cell- based assay for pathogensis of Huntington's diseases. 4. It record a response to a given stimulation.
