1.What is the source of the speckle seen in an ultrasound image?
2.Why is speckle not considered noise?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ultrasound is usually used to internal organs, skin, muscles etc.
Speckle is a noise which arises during ultrasound, tomography etc.
It is usually caused when coherent processing of many backscattered signals.
It arises basically because of interference of returning wave.

Despite some interference caused results in speckle, it is not considered as noise.
It is just considered as interference pattern.
Specially in ultrasound, speckle is not random and also helps in determining boundaries.

An ultrasound machine in a hospital uses a sound source at 5.10000MHz. Assuming that the speed of the ultrasound in the body is same as water (1440 m/s), determine the wavelength in the body. If blood cells are moving towards the sound source at a speed of 0.8 m/s, at what frequency do the crests of the sound wave pass through the blood cell? What is the frequency of the sound waves reflected back towards the source by the blood...

(a) What are the major noises in an image sensor and what are the sources for them? (b) Sensor cooling is a common technology to get less noise. This technique has been widely used for image sensors in scientific instruments. However, you probably cannot find a cooler in a digital single-lens reflex (D-SLR) camera even a high end one. Why? (c) In the past, CMOS image sensors tend to have more readout noise than CCD sensors. Explain why this is...

Hello. This problem is about image noise cancelling. The problem is like this: There are some pictures of moon that you take in a row. The position of moon doesn't change at all and there exists white Gaussian noise on the image. Mean of the noise is 1 and variance is 49. How do you get a clean image without noise? There is a comment for this problem that if you average k pictures which satisfy the condition ?^2 /...
