Apiaceae are a family of mostly flowering plants which have the following characteristic structural features:
1. Flowers are small and inconspicuous.They have five sepals which are distinct and are very reduced,the five petals distinct which develop from a ring-like primordium.
2.They also have five stamens with distinct filaments and two connate carpels in an inferior ovary.
3.They have basally swollen styles form a nectarsecreting structure called stylopodium on the top of the ovary
4.They have seeds with oil glands
5.The leaves are in alternate position with sheathing bases and have hollow internodes.
6.Inflorescences usually involves involucrate compound umbels.
7.The fruit is a schizocarp which consists two fused carpels that separate at maturity into two mericarps and each contain a single seed.
