DNA sequence.
5’-CTACACTTTATCGTTAATCTGCCAGAAGCACCCCTCCAGGTGTCTACTGTATGGTGTCGCCAT-3’

  1. “Transcribe” and form an RNA transcript based on the DNA sequence.
  2. Illustrate the amino acid sequence of the resulting polypeptide using the genetic code.

*Please follow proper directionality of both the RNA strand and the polypeptide. Indicate clearly and label correctly the ends of the molecules mentioned.

What is/are the characteristic feature/s of the resulting polypeptide based on the viral DNA sequence given?

Answer #1

A DNA has two strands- one is 5' to 3' which is the coding strand and the other is 3' to 5' which is the template strand.

During transcription, RNA polymerase uses the template strand of DNA to make 5' to 3' mRNA. The mRNA has same sequence as that of coding strand of DNA except that the T is replaced by U.
