Ribosomes are responsible for translation of mRNA into polypeptide chains with the help of ribosomal subunits and tRNA. Thus, after the ribosome has completed a synthesis, one would expect to find a Polypetide chain in the cytoplasm of the prokaryote. Polypeptides are formed when the amino group of one amino acid forms an amide (i.e., peptide) bond with the carboxyl group of another amino acid. Translation begins when the two ribosomal subunits link onto the mRNA. This step, called initiation, is followed by elongation and finally termination.
