In genetic engineering, an organism's or plant gene is manipulated. A particular set of methods are used in such a way that the genetic organization of plant or animal get changed and produce recombinant gene. When we change an animal ro plant by this method, then the animal or plant is known as genetically modified organisms or shortly GMO. This method is useful in several instances like agriculture, medicine or industrial purposes.

An example of genetic engineering is the production of genetically modified crops where a new trait is introduced in a plant which do not carry it in normal situation. For instances these crops are made to introduce pesticide resistance gene or disease resistance gene.
