Ginkgo biloba is the only deciduous gymnosperm, all the other members like pine, spruce, fir and juniper trees etc are evergreen. Thus, because it is deciduous in nature thus it is thought to be a connective link between the gymnosperms and the flowering plants, angiosperms.
It is considered as an extinct plant, however, some studies show its reappearance in China. But, this needs a confirmation still.
The plant is known for its medicinal properties, it has loads of anti-inflammatory properties and anti-oxidants. It is also used for treating brain disorders like dementia, Alzheimer's disease.
