Short Essay Question:
explain the concept of Double Fertilization (Plants)
In Angiosperms two sperms or male gametes are involved in fertilization. Firstly pollen grains are localized on stigma and germinate via formation of pollen tube. In female embryo sac 8 cells are present in 3+2+3 fashion. Out of first 3 two are synergids and 1 is egg. In center two polar bodies and 3 are antipodal cells. One sperm fuses with egg and form zygote by process syngamy. And another fuses with pollar bodies to form triploid nucleus by triple fusion. Triploid nucleus forms the endosperm which nourishes the developing embryo. This is the concept of Double fertilization in flowering plants.
