The most characteristic feature of cancer cells are it's uncontrolled proliferation and ability to spread to distant sites which is known as metastasis. Cancer is a Latin word which means crab. Once metastasis develop, the cancer is said to have reached stage 4 which has a very bad prognosis. Metastasis from primary sites such as colon can spread to liver, lungs, bones, peritoneum etc. Treatment of metastasis depends upon the site of primary, the site of metastasis, and personal treatment choices. Different treatment modalities include chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.
