what are number of bands?

what are number of bands?

Answer #1

Your question is incomplete and figure is not included. Please, be specific on that. If we consider this in terms of solid-state physics, the electronic band structure (or simply band structure) of a solid describes the range of energies that an electron within the solid may have. In terms of biology, when immature WBCs are first released from the bone marrow into the peripheral blood, they are called as bands or stabs. In addition, if we run a gel (agarose gel or SDS page), the protein or nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) are separated according to their size or charge, and they will be visualized in the patterns of bands. Then we can count the bands.

1a. After performing SDS-PAGE of a protein extract, there will be a number of protein "bands" in a lane of the gel. In a single "band" all proteins have the same ___. Select one: a. molecular mass b. R-groups with mostly hydrophobic amino acids c. tertiary structure d. function 1b. Solve for x. Your answer should have three significant digits. (the answer is not 15.1) 10x = 151

In our column chromatography of spinach most students obtain three or four bands. However, a TLC of the same spinach extract can yield up to 7 spots on the TLC. A. Explain why one can not isolate the same number of bands from the column as there are on the TLC? B. How would you need to adjust the column chromatography experiment in order to isolate all the bands that are visible on the TLC?

In a typical microbiology laboratory, reasons for no bands from a gel of a polymerase chain reaction may be due to errors relating to omission of ingredients in the reaction mix and absence of the target sequence in the template DNA. Based on (i) primer problem and (ii) purity/potential contamination of the target sequence, explain the reasons for non-appearance on bands.
