Short tendem repeats (STRs)/VNTR (variable number of temdem repeats) or short nucleotide polymorphism are used by the scientist to determine the identities of organism within the same species.

Because they show high polymorphism and are present in specific number at specific locus in particular species.They are non-coding sequences. Due to the polymorphic nature STRs offers very important information about the organism when matched with the DNA profile.

Example: In crime scene take sample of criminal , extract DNA and then match with the DNA profile of the suspect . If DNA profile get matched the criminal is same.

So, Non coding DNA provide the platform for identify the organism from the same species.
